  • Alcoholism is one of the most difficult addictions to diagnose and treat. Drinking is more socially acceptable than say, doing meth, and you will almost always be labeled as an addict when you do drugs regularly rather than drink regularly.

My advice to you is, if you can, lay off. If you find that you seriously can't live without drinking, then see an MD. I am only licensed as a therapist so I can't really explicitly recommend that you try medication. I'm just not qualified to do that. What I CAN say is that I have had patients who suffered from alcoholism see success with using medications and report that those medications reduced the cravings and the anxiety they feel when they can't access alcohol.

You probably already know that you have a genetic predisposition to alcoholism but just using that as a basis for my recommendation, I would highly suggest that you avoid alcohol on a regular basis. Drinking is a normal thing to do for adults, but if you don't think that you can restrain yourself from drinking too much, then you really need to avoid it altogether.

    • Your a therapist and your username is doctor angel dust? You know angel dust is probably about the worst shit out there that somebody can take, probably worse than crack even. A therapist probably wouldn't find the stuff funny because it isn't. You can't make jokes about PCP, that shit's too fucked up to be made fun of

      • Hahaha, it was my semi-affectionate nickname from when I was a drug dealer. PCP is no laughing matter but the nickname and the circumstances of the nickname still crack me up when I think about it. It was what all the old hippies called me.

Believe me, there are worse things out there than PCP.

        • Yeah I guess, it isn't addictive or anything really, it just makes a lot of people do really crazy stuff under the influence it seems.
