I never have given it much thought until I read your question. However, most people need to have an assurance of some kind of an afterlife. I think that maybe God is just a harder sell than spirits, or ghosts. I guess most people would like to have hard, empirical evidence, and in any group of people some will have seen a ghost. On the other hand, I don't think God has shown up corporeally, or otherwise since the Old Testament.
Am I the only one who thinks it's kinda funny when people believe...
