Am I the only one who gets pissed when somebody uses this argument?

  • It probably bothers me more when people insist that marijuana shouldn't be considered a "gateway" drug; i.e., an intoxicating substance that tends to encourage users to go on to abuse other drugs. ANY intoxicating substance can be a gateway drug, and that includes alcohol. I'm sure there are plenty of folks out there who smoke weed and manage to use it "responsibly"; they also do not necessarily go on to use other stronger, more dangerous drugs. I was one of those people who was instantly hooked on the concept of getting high and staying high the minute I smoked my first joint. These days, I probably would have been considered "at risk" by counselors before I ever used anything just because of my family history of extensive use and abuse of a variety of substances...Sorry for the lengthy commentary. I'm newly sober (nearly 6 months) and am actually enjoying the experience. I invite others to give it a try as well; under the right circumstances and with the right attitude, it sure beats the hell out of being addicted.
