It probably bothers me more when people insist that marijuana shouldn't be considered a "gateway" drug; i.e., an intoxicating substance that tends to encourage users to go on to abuse other drugs. ANY intoxicating substance can be a gateway drug, and that includes alcohol. I'm sure there are plenty of folks out there who smoke weed and manage to use it "responsibly"; they also do not necessarily go on to use other stronger, more dangerous drugs. I was one of those people who was instantly hooked on the concept of getting high and staying high the minute I smoked my first joint. These days, I probably would have been considered "at risk" by counselors before I ever used anything just because of my family history of extensive use and abuse of a variety of substances...Sorry for the lengthy commentary. I'm newly sober (nearly 6 months) and am actually enjoying the experience. I invite others to give it a try as well; under the right circumstances and with the right attitude, it sure beats the hell out of being addicted. But for those who are already using and enjoying without any of the severe consequences that I experienced, enjoy ...
