I know EXACTLY what you mean! I have the same thing, I don't think I have bad taste, I just have obscure taste. There's this 1967 arthouse movie from the underground era that I absolutely love, it's called David Holzman's Diary. (my username and profile is based on it) I first saw the film when I was 14 and it begun my love affair with film, it creatively inspired me and filled me with so much thought, wonder and awe.
I brought it round to a friends place the other night after telling him about it. I had no idea that his new girlfriend and his house-mate would be there. They have modern, mainstream taste. Well they made an absolute mockery of the film and it felt like an assault on me. I got really sensitive about it. This is a film I've treasured for 15 years. It's not that I felt they HAD to like it, everybody is different/with different tastes, but I just wish I hadn't shown them, because it would've kept the movie pure to my own senses. Now I fear the next time I watch it I'll be hearing their criticisms of it in my own head and it will alter my perspective. I wish it wasn't so.
Oh I've totally blown my cover now, haha there goes all my mystery and intrigue...!
Yeah judged is the right word. I just got really flustered, it was weird. My ears heated up, like I was blushing with my ears. Haha how strange. I should do a IIN post about that.
Yeah you've said everything that was on my mind! I was thinkig of watching that movie btw people say good things about it ^^ I think I answer my own question when I say that we need to find people who love that thing as much as we do that way no bad things will be said about it,couse you know it's still hard that you can't share your excitement with someone.
Am I that selfish? IIN?

I wondered where your username came from. Now I know. :)
I hate sharing things that I love with people only to have them disrespect it. I feel so judged.
