Am i taking things too seriously?

I work a night shift with really off the hat people, I am the worst of the bunch, but they don't know me well enough to know it and I know I can go deep into anything, discussions, jokes and etc,. There are times that they'll hurl insults at one another, I sense the energy in the voices is intense, but they try play it off.
My point is, is it okay not to get sucked into it because, it's either I don't get involved or I am all in and I could end up being the one that makes everyone else "cry", that throwing in a "I am just joking" won't cut it.

    Yoo this is me at work. I'm in college but am stuck with idiots. They say the most ignorant, bullshit things ever. I just laugh or do something productive. I treat people with respect and if you stay out of it then no one will fuck with you. I don't do jokes. I'm to serious for the bs jokes when I'm making money.

    I think I see what you're saying. If you are surrounded by assholes, it's best to engage as little as possible.
