You need to know your audience when doing customer service type work, like sales and such. And i would suppose playing a part goes a bit into that. I would assume many people in sales would confirm they have different personalities and interact differently depending on who they are interacting with.

I think as long as you are respectful, go for it. Find a way to make work easier in life.

Please don't just act gay. We have it hard enough

I used to answer the phone at work in different accents. People seem to respond best to a sympathetic, female voice with a Southern accent when it comes to customer service.
