For example, going to a politically aligned blog pretending to have the opposite opinion, and writing a comment just to see how many angry replies you get.
If you were trolling, you'd know.
The word "trolling" actually started as a shorter way of saying "trolling for suckers" (where trolling is a type of fishing), so you can see where the connection is made to what it means now.
