Afraid to cry..

I'm a woman and every time I cry I feel like I'm acting like a child and feel ashamed by it. When I cry I feel like no one wants to be around me and secretly telling me to stop and grow up. I cry often and I still feel guilty for this action. I know there's no reason to be, but my mind is perceiving crying as pathetic and unconfident.

  • Crying is one of the healthiest things a human under stress can do. And everybody who can, has cried.
It’s okay to cry, however soft or hard, because it’s what happens when reason fails and your words fall short. It’s amazing that it actually helps and afterwards though you may have a headache and maybe puffy eyes, it’ll always feel better after you cry.

If you’re really self conscious about crying, go into a private place to do so. That’s what many people do anyway. And don’t deny your body it’s right of releasing stress just because you’re afraid of others thoughts.
Besides, people who don’t know you really wouldn’t care about you crying. They’d link it with “oh no somethings wrong with her,” and then possibly follow it up with “I hope she feels better soon.” and then continue on their day.

TLDR, no one cares if you cry so just do it if it makes you feel better.

It's because on an animalistic level crying is weakness. You're letting people see that you've broken down. I don't see how you're going to trick your mind into seeing it as anything else.

On the plus side I don't think it's that bad for women, and people probably don't see it as badly as you do. You shouldn't hold in the tears when you're on your own, but do you think you can suck it up until you are on your own? If not, then so long as you're not breaking down over everything, the occasional cry around people isn't too bad.

I found a full uneaten pizza on the sidewalk last night. I didn't eat it.

That's just so flat-out disrespectful it makes me want to weep. Think of all the effort and energy that went into making that pizza, not to mention the animals that had to die if it had meat topping, and the calf that had to be born and then die just so its mother could be milked to make the cheese.

You should have expressed your gratitude to the cosmos for delivering to you a free pizza - literally laying at your feet - by consuming it.

thinka the small proportionsa resources needed to make sidewalk trash vs the potential risksa eatin literal garbage to makea point about .000000001% of daily food waste in a civilized country

yes food waste is an absolute fuckin cryin disgrace i agrees but ffs why risk biohorrors for a principle?

i bets if that wasted pizza was never made a good proportion woulda never been sold for a profit anyhow or nourished by someone deservin

        I know why.
First, RoseIsabella let her cats eat some.
Then Megadriver ran over it with one of his 50 Mercedes.
Then cosmowank jerked off on it.
        Then Charli.m labeled it "vile".
Then Leggs91200 made some snark-ass rude remark about the pizza.
Then TerriAngel wrote one of her damned poems about the pizza.
Then donteatstuffoffthesidewalk advised that it is best to not eat stuff off the sidewalk, especially given the condition of the pizza.

So Nikkiclaire, being mindful and wise, decided it would be best to not eat any.

A lot of people are uncomfortable around someone who is crying.

I do not want ANYone to see me cry over being sad but if i cry about physical pain, I do not care who sees me.

Remember - it takes a big man to cry. It takes an even bigger man to laugh at him for crying.

Everyone should cry from time to time. Its really all about balance of too much and too little.

And what's the other option? Bottle it all in and then start taking out your anger on everyone else? Or booze away your sorrows? Crying is what NATURE has intended for you to let off steam healthily, there is NO logical reason why you shouldn't use this natural coping mechanism. If you cry, you're doing a natural thing and IMO it gets you in tune with your real feelings and you sometimes feel better either while crying or afterward. Human beings are mostly illogical and hence have developed this idea and social stigma that if you cry, you are weak :/ Cry me a damn river!

    "I'm a woman and..."

What does that have to do with expressing emotion?

    It's 2018, not 1953.

It's ok to cry, but it is a useful skill to learn not to do it in public. It's embarrassing for you and everyone around you.

Bear in mind that the reason I feel this way is because I'm emotionally fucked up and was trained as a child that my feelings didn't matter and if I cried I was to be ignored or punished.

Take from this what you will. Be the change you want to see.

  • Tbh, I agree with your thoughts. I only cry in private. I'm not gonna humiliate myself, or make someone else, especially not a stranger, deal with my shit.

However, maybe it would be better to only cry around people who you know care about you.

I'd rather someone I love feel comfortable to cry around me, than feel the need to hold it in to avoid making me uncomfortable.

Disclaimer though, I have no idea how to comfort someone.

Do antipsychotics, they numb you to emotional pain, you wont have to cry that much then.
