About my "witchcraft passion"

I have a passion for witchcraft (tarot, astrology, incense, essential oils, gemstones, etc), and decided to tell my mother about it.

She supports it, although she keeps saying "it could be worse"..... Like what's that supposed to mean?! I asked my mother this and her response is "You could be into drugs, partying, or a hooker".

Like gee, thanks! It makes me feel like she feels obligated to support this passion of mine to be a "good parent". However to be honest, it comes off as fake and dishonest. She doesn't have to support what I'm into all the time. I'm honest with my mom if I don't support something. Why can't she just say "I don't agree with this, but that's your choice".

Maybe I'm over thinking things, but I don't know why my mom keeps saying "it could be worse". What do you think about this?

It's probably because she thinks you could be doing worse. She's saying that she barely supports you, but she does support more than if you were to be doing any of those other things.

    Well you could be Catholic.

  • Maybe she means that she expected so little of you in life that this isn't so bad.

Well for me it's chill because my mom is into the same things.
She's not into pagan religion though, but she accepts me being and that's good enough for me.

So just cast a magic spell to make her accept you. She thinks you’re immature and need to grow up and let go of this stupid fantasy.

It's not a stupid fantasy to me. Also that's a stereotype of witchcraft, which is not cool! Half of the practice is about self growth and taping into a different realm all together.

Are you fat? Most people into this crap either look like drug addiction or are fat. Are you wycann? I guess thats the same question

she just seems overly traditional. as long as she allows you to keep doing witchcraft you should keep doing it lol, hopefully she comes around to seeing that it's not a bad thing eventually. maybe lay off on dark aesthetics for a bit and show her the positive parts of witchcraft, whatever works.

Dark aesthetics? Excuse me, but half of the stuff I do is about bringing positivity into my life!

Sorry, that was an assumption lol. I've seen a lot of modern witches who like dark/witchy aesthetics (I'm sort of into them too). wasn't meaning to be rude.

I'm guessing she's philosophically disinclined to humor what she probably sees as make believe, which is why you're not getting an intellectual conversation

I've noticed people with a similar mindset typically believe the same things I do, but say I'm wrong to say the exact same thing in just different words, to a point where I can usually say, "I agree with you, ..."

Considering your mother's possible thought processes, if you show disinterest in talking with her about it, or even going as far as noticeably considering her a child for a moment and letting her be right (like smiling confidently and saying okay just as loudly as her)

That would probably start a discussion for sure, just be sure you're ready to have one. Maybe you could find ways she can understand, see what her opinions are and try to understand them too.

You're both allowed to be your own people, and if you want to see eye to eye with her, there has to be mutual understanding, and it should be done without anyone breaking trust.

She doesn't support you. I think that she wants you to quit it but she cannot tell you.

Actually not entirely because she wants me to do a tarot card reading for her.

I believe she only supports the general idea of me being into that stuff rather than actually asking questions about it.

Maybe she wants you to read the tarot cards for her so that she can see how far you've gone with the witchcraft.

Honestly from what you've said, I don't think she likes the idea of this then. Still though, that's most probably just because she knows nothing about Wicca. And the only things she has heard is nothing but misinformation and rumours spread by Christian church leaders. I'd say she'd be fine about it if you showed her what it was all about.
