A whole family of non-chicken-poxed people

This person called "H" (paranoid about being recognised you see) has got chicken pox real bad and I feel so useless because there's nothing I can do to ease their pain. It's not your regular chicken pox - H is an adult and it's much, much worse. H has gone off to A&E because H is not getting better even with antivirals, paracetamol and tons camaline lotion, but I'm not sure what they're going to do to help. I don't like seeing H like this...bloody hell, it's terrible.

Does anyone know of things that help chicken pox? Anything that's helped you in your experience with the illness - just throw it out there. Especially things to help with the pain of the blisters. Food suggestions would be great as well, because H has been surviving on yogurt and water for the past week or so (blisters in mouth and throat.)

None of my family has had chicken pox before, so it's not the greatest situation. In fact, I feel a bit feverish right now. Is it normal to have a whole family of non-chicken-poxed people? Everyone else who has heard seems to recoil in horror at our lack of relative immunity ;P

Is It Normal?

  • I don't know much about it except that adults who get chicken pox are prone to also getting shingles (herpes zoster), which is a terrible, painful illness. It's an infection of the actual nerve roots in the skin. So something like Aleve or Advil would help dull the pain. Like I said, it's a virus so the only thing you can do is take any antiviral medication your doctor has given you, treat the symptoms with pain killers, take care of any open sores with some antibiotic and lotion to minimize scarring, and wait it out.

This sounds horrible, best of luck to you and hope you all feel better soon.

    • I just know a remedy for itches of Chickenpox and mosquito bites.
You wet the area and rub table salt on the pox or bite.
Sorry I can't be of more help. I hope H gets better soon.

  • Thanks guys, I'm showing the symptoms now. Yikes. I'm no way near as bad as my brother though. Let's hope it stays that way.

I tried to get antivirals as soon as the little red things started appearing, but my doctor told me that I don't need it. I can only trust her. It's just that I was worried that I may get as bad as my brother later on.

My mum and dad seem to be fine so far, which is good.

      • over it and gladly! Still feel and look a bit crappy though. Adult chicken pox really does take its toll. To any adults who haven't had chicken pox yet - beware.

        Also, calamine didn't really work.
