A moral question for ethical vegetarians/vegans

Certain animals are being bred for food. If everyone became a vegetarian/vegan this of course would stop. These animals wouldn't be bred anymore. So, the reason these animals exist in the FIRST place is solely for consumption. Wouldn't it then be in the best interest of these animals to be a meat-eater? Otherwise, they wouldn't even be bred to exist.

  • Decent life > population.

Are the Indians, who breed like rats, and then live in shitty conditions partially as a result of their breeding doing better than us Westerners with 2 children?

    I think not.

Animals don't know or care about the numbers. Of course, they're hard wired to breed. But 100 non-domesticated cows grazing under the open sky are better than 100 million in conditions so awful they'd be better off dead anyway.

long long ago this dude name Cain sacrifices some grain unto the lord god, and displeased the lord that very day. so his brother Able dis so that very day sacrifice a burnt offering of the lamb , a honey barbecue sauce may or may not have been included , cant say i wasnt there. But i do hear the lord was very pleased. Cain in a vegan induced VitB12 deficiency fit of madness slay his brother Able for it. That's how i see all vegans are nut jobs.

    • Cute story, but some studies showed that around 39% of Americans were B12 deficient. However, only about 3.2% of Americans are vegetarian or vegan.

Of course vegans are nut jobs though; nuts are one of the best sources of plant protein.

It's wrong to eat them for environmental reasons, animal agriculture is one of the largest contributors to global warming.

Animal agriculture releases almost a 5th of the worlds greenhouse emissions.

So if you're not doing it because you care about animals that don't exist yet, do it because you care about the earth :P

I'm not a vegan but this argument doesn't really stand very well. Isn't it better to not exist than to exist solely to be killed and consumed?

All of my food consists of animals that eat animals. My prey eats your domesticated. Top of the food chain here.

Mostly predators of the sea: tuna, Wahoo, swordfish, etc. Mammals: bears and lions.

I'm a vegetarian, but not for ethical reason, so I'm afraid I can't say much on the matter, and that I have wasted your time even reading this. Sorry.

If the animals weren't bred they wouldn't have any "best interests" for anyone to preserve. Something that doesn't exist doesn't have any interests whatsoever.

If people no longer ate animals en masse it would likely lead to most of them being exported to places that still did and the rest sold off to zoos. Did you know scientists are trying to grow lab meat to stop this very issue? Not everyone is a vegen, but most people are uncomfortable with hurting animals.

The “Vegetarianism in America” study published by Vegetarian Times showed that 3.2 percent of U.S. adults, or 7.3 million people, follow a vegetarian-based diet. Approximately 0.5 percent, or 1 million, of those are vegans, who consume no animal products at all.Apr 16, 2008. not everyone is gay either .

Another good question is, if we were never meant to be meat eaters (I see lots of SJW vegans saying we're meant to be a vegetarian species..) then why can our stomachs get nutrients for them, why do we have canines, why do we like meat?

The thing is omnivorous and carnivorous animals like meat. It's not wrong for a human to eat meat. And it's not wrong for a human to eat plants, since we both get our nutrients from it. I don't know if we can stop domestication for food, since it's one of our main food sources, and the fact that those animals have been bred for hundreds of years, so stopping would make them incapable of surviving in the wild. I think we should not abuse or neglect our food sources and treat them with respect, not a disposable object. But that's just me. Eat whatever the hell you want. I don't care

Perfect solution, Nick. Synthesized muscle fiber, grown in vitro at low prices with GMO modifications to make the flavor irresistible. Nobody gets hurt. B12 microbes are saved by filtration. Start working the problem dude. 7 billion fat people are gnoshing in frenzied unison.
