what do you think of african american girls or "oreo's"?

I've always wanted to know what people thought of African American girls. I've heard things like "black girls" are loud, obnoxious, rude, moody, and mean. So tell me what you think of African american girls?

People that meet me always say i act like a "oreo" meaning i act like a white girl. is that a bad thing? that has always been my nick name in high school and middle school. I dislike being called an "oreo" b/c i think people are saying im ashamed of being african american and thinking im trying to be something that im not.

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • It's not that you are acting white...you are just being yourself and there is no reason to be ashamed of that. This "acting black" is ridiculous and doesn't exist. Black or white....civilized humans act the same for the most part. Don't let someone harass you into pretending you're ghetto...that's not a black thing it's an ignorant thing.

  • People will always generalise others as it makes them feel more comfortable in the world. I myself am a Black British male and I have been called a 'coconut' before because I don't conform to the stereotype that everyone (black, white and other) is comfortable with. See this for what it is; other peoples' discomfort that you have broken the mould and are confident enough to be a true individual. You have the courage to be yourself and not follow the crowds as a mindless automaton. They call you that name because deep down they wish they were as confident as you are. Peace.

  • Don't feel bad. I'm a black girl too and everyone calls my a oreo in middle school and still in highschool It use to piss me off but know I didn't because I'm over it. I dont see race because you can not act a color. Some people are to dumb to see that. Look at the bright side at least your not faking who you are like most girl. So don't change because people will always stereotype until the actually like and know you for what your truly
    are.

  • Good thing this place isn't like yahoo answers or you'd have a ton of racist comments by now. As a matter of fact I even deleted mine.

  • I'm confused... I was under the impression ( I know it is NOT nice ) but thought that "Oreo" meant half African American and half White. A slang term used in a derogatory way... Again not nice, but thought that is what it meant.

  • What does it mean to "act black" and "act white"? These aren't definable because no one is; just be yourself :)

  • You are perfect the way you are. Don't change for their sake. They are stupid for calling you that. Bullies come in all races. Stand tall, head up, shoulders back and walk proud.

  • I say keep doing what you doing, nobody cant change the way you act but you, and to be honest... a black person myself.. i dont give a flying fuck if my friends says i act white, truth be told, sometimes it pays to act other than your race.
