It's not that simple and it really depends. The only definite fact from this, is that dude has read a lot of shit on the internet. The problem with that is, insecure guys without much real-life experience end up thinking they have to act like a dick to get women to respect them.
And it's just not that simple.
It IS possible to compliment someone too much, for sure. But it's up to you to find the balance. And without knowing how much you compliment her, it's hard to say.
