[meta] what questions types should be allowed on this site?

Or, what questions do y'all want to see?

This is IIN, and I'd like to keep it that way. But would anyone be open to other questions formats too? For example:

> polls ("How old are you?" "Are you a virgin?")

> advice ("What should I do about...?")

> topic discussion threads ("What do you find relaxing?" "Do you like your job?")

> would you rather -style questions ("Pick one of the following superpowers..." "Would you rather always be 10 minutes late, or always be 1 hour early?")

We already see a lot of these, of course. I was wondering how people would react if I introduced content that maybe deviates from IIN's original purpose.

Thoughts? And yes, I know I'm kind of already doing that with this question.

Edit: I am not the site admin.

Sure, whatever. 5
I approve of new question types, like WYR's, but marked clearly & things still mostly IIN questions. 4
IIN / asking for advice is okay, but this site isn't supposed to be for anything else. 0
Keep this site EXACTLY how it is now - mostly IIN, some polls / advice / discussion, nothing else. 9
ONLY IIN posts and rare discussion / meta threads. Don't deviate from the site's original purpose. 1
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I like the sites question formats and the rules the way they are. Making the site look more modern would be nice though.

Maybe you could modernize the look of the site to attract more users. At present it looks a bit old-fashioned and the thousands of posts are not well organised.

I'm also concerned that there are loads of reposts on the same subject - old posts don't get revisited much and just end up abandoned, I guess because they are hard to find unless you actively search for them. You could make posts on given subjects easier to find by putting the category list on the front page as clickable links, like on a forum, with 'just in' and 'most popular' as the two top links.

This could help with the trolling issue: you might find that the trolls only stick around certain categories (like 'sex' - or you could have a dedicated 'troll' section), leaving everyone else free to not have to wade through their posts unless they want to.

I love the simple shabbyness. And I like that the site only gets a few regular users a month. It's homey.

All that stuff is on the non-mobile version of the main page. It would never fit on a smart phone like you have. As for the trolls, your best bet is to block them if you don't like them. Of course, you could always join them. *wink*. Your intelligence is high enough that with a bit of slyness, you could out troll the trolls at their own game. Mmmmmm, tempting.

To be brutally honest I find the number of fields to fill in, irritating, because they don't seem to have much utility afterwards. I say this as a smartphone user. I think it would be good to establish whether people use the tags/categories to search for posts. If not, they could be removed, revamped or at least made optional rather than obligatory.

So basically they are wanting to turn this site into something you might see on Cosmopolitan or People magazine's website?

I am not sure why someone is even asking this, the admin/mods/owner/whoever is going to do what they want anyways.

I can see it now - questions about what is the best vegetable drink for losing weight or sex polls revealing what guys REALLY want.

Oh well, WHEN these changes come, and people start talking about how to relax after work, there are other sites. Unfortunately, all sites sell out sooner or later, which is why it is important to not get attached to any one.
Even firefox sold out, a damn web host.

Im cool with any and all, I don't expect the site to be tailored exactly to my taste like a fb feed, I expect to have to look through questions to find the ones I'm interested in participating in.

Imo those who complain don't understand that every question and post is not meant for them, and they often sound like babies to me when they complain...because its rather easy to browse questions to find the ones you like and to avoid the ones you don't.

even repeat questions are okay imo because the community changes and gets new members so poll could get different results at different times and its also okay to talk about things that have already been talked about.

  • I wish there was a separate category for politics. And if you speak about politics in any other category then you get banned

      • I don't think you would say that if you were here when beast, pedo and incest were allowed. It was an everyday thing to the point of people leaving iin in droves.

Seems like the old threads are more popular tho. There was more people. All you have to do is not click on the thread you don't like. Maybe thats not why people left. People probably got tired of getting banned over getting downvoted on silly stuff
